Elaine Belloc: Background - 1999[]

The circumstances that would lead to Elaine's birth are quite remarkable. The archangel Michael was given an endowment of divine power and tasked with siring a child on Earth. The woman Michael chose for this endeavor was a devout church-going woman named Barbara Belloc, who agreed to bear Michael's child upon him revealing his divinity to her. However, after the deed was done and the child was sired, Michael took Barbara's memory of the event and returned to Heaven, leaving Barbara to discover she was pregnant and assume that the child belonged to her husband, Matthew Belloc.

Elaine Belloc: 2000 - 2013[]

Barbara Belloc would give birth to a baby girl on a cold September morning in the seaside resort town of Youghal, Ireland. The girl would be named Elaine, to honor Matthew Belloc's mother, who had passed away the winter before. Despite her deep love for community and family, Elaine always harbored a sense of not belonging and aspirations that went beyond her quaint surroundings. Even at a young age, she sensed she was meant for something more. These ambitions were shared with her best friend and confidante, Mona Doyle.

As Elaine grew older, she started to notice she possessed some interesting abilities. As she knew her religious family would have concerns if they knew about these powers, Elaine kept these abilities secret from her parents and younger brother, Cal; however, she kept no such secrets from Mona. In fact it was Mona's idea to further explore these abilities and start an amateur detective agency in order to use these powers for the forces of good.

Of course, neither Elaine or Mona could throw a punch, but they were both big science nerds (having hoped to get scholarships to some far-off foreign university and make it big making medicine to cure all the diseases in the world — yes, these girls were nothing if not ambitious). So, the girls put their heads together to make a crime lab in Mona's garage. They cracked a few cases by dropping anonymous notes in the local police chief's mailbox, but summer came along and Elaine had to go visit her grandparents up north for a few weeks.

Elaine Belloc: 2013[]

When Elaine returned from her summer trip, she was surprised to find Mona was not home and her parents had no idea where she was having assumed she was out with Elaine. Elaine searched for Mona about town for hours, checking all of their usual hang-outs but to no avail. When Elaine was retiring for the night, she turned off the lights and immediately saw Mona standing right there — or rather, Mona's ghost.

Elaine was devastated to hear that Mona had been abducted and murdered. With Mona at her side, Elaine snuck out to examine Mona's last known location and search for clues that could help Elaine and Mona find the body. Though some clues were found, their crime lab lacked the resources to make use of the clues, forcing Elaine to turn to the police. However, the police only thought Elaine had an overactive, morbid imagination and insisted that Mona had only run-away to attend a festival or was out with a boyfriend.

The ghost of Mona was all the proof Elaine needed to continue her investigation and as more of Mona's memory returned, the two were able to point the blame at their school's principal, who had been secretly selling drugs on the side to pay for his dying wife's cancer treatments. He had killed Mona after he discovered the girls' theft of chemistry equipment to stock their crime lab and had wrongfully deduced the girls were making drugs of their own which would have cut into his profits.

He wasn't the only one making bad assumptions, though. Elaine had figured the principal to be the sort to turn himself in if confronted. However, when she did confront him, he clobbered her over the head with a bronze bust, chained her up, and tossed her in the basement — next to Mona's plastic-wrapped corpse. In desperation, Elaine decided to pray.

At first, there was no answer, but when Elaine began to apologize to Mona's corpse for failing, Mona's ghost came to her. It was this moment when Elaine realized she could summon spirits and at Mona's urging, Elaine tried to summon other spirits... and the surprise of both Elaine and her spectral sidekick, the Devil showed up to answer the call.[1]

Resources[]

  • Archangel Physiology: Elaine is the only archangel born of a human mother. Due to the endowment of worship and supernal power bestowed upon Michael which was passed on to Elaine at conception, her human biology was mostly overwritten, causing her to be born as an archangel, though still subject to the constraints of human development - which was by design, likely in order to create an archangel with a better understanding of the mortal experience.
    • Dimension Shifting: At will, Elaine can pass through any dimensional barrier which she has authority to traverse. However, at present, she is quite limited in her number of planes she has been given access to.
    • Enhanced Physicality: Elaine is much stronger than she would seem. Likewise, she is more resilient, agile, durable, and coordinated at levels than most mortals are even capable.
    • Immortality: Elaine does not age or suffer from most illness.
    • Limited Cosmic Awareness: Elaine is aware of powerful events happening on her plane of existence. She is also attuned to a psychic frequency which angels use to communicate with one another across most of reality and its many subsidiary realities. Like most angels, she can also sense when someone speaks her name with the intent to call her to their location.
    • Linguistic Instinct: Using her supernal Gift of Tongues, Elaine can speak, read, understand, and write any and all mortal languages — including those which are encrypted.
    • Nigh-Invulnerability: Elaine is not easily killed by violence.
    • Supernatural Senses: Elaine can perceive things across different dimensional frequencies, allowing her to see or hear things that exist on a different plane or concealed, such as ghosts or non-manifested angels on Earth.
    • Telepathy: Elaine is able to read the surface thoughts of mortal beings. With some effort, Elaine is also able to transmit information into another person's mind, causing them to hear the transmission in their own internal voice.
    • Teleportation: Elaine can relocate herself to familiar locations.
    • Winged Flight: Elaine can fly at supersonic speeds with wings of supernal power. She can conceal these wings when not in use
  • Sorcery: Elaine is a novice sorceress.
    • Infernal Sorcery: Elaine has learned a good deal of infernal sorcery from her Uncle Lucifer.
    • Supernal Sorcery: Though Elaine has less knowledge of supernal sorcery, due to lacking a mentor, she does have some innate magical powers — such the ability to summon ephemeral beings to her location, provided she has some familiarity with them.
  • Scientific Clairsentience: Elaine is naturally adept at science — particularly the natural sciences. Upon learning she was an angel, Elaine realized that her gift for science was actually part of the archangels' aptitude for creation. Though Elaine does not yet have a full understanding of this ability, she improves every year. Even at her current state, she has extensive mastery over the disciplines of anatomy, biology, chemistry, physics, thermodynamics, and zoology — just to name a few.

Weaknesses[]

  • Mortal Understanding: Despite the endowment of her conception making her a fully biological archangel, Elaine's mind, body, and personality are subject to mortal rates of maturity and development limiting her power during her youth. It is likely she will overcome this with time, likely when her age exceeds that of mortal capability.
  • Vice — Pride: Elaine tends to think the world revolves around her. She often does not consider others' perspectives ar emotions when she makes her decisions. Likewise, Elaine puts her own needs and desires above those of others.
  • Youth: Elaine is an irresponsible young adult, prone to making mistakes and using her powers in petty, selfish ways. This often results in unforeseen consequences, both on a local and cosmic level.

Trivia and Notes[]

Trivia[]

  • She's a student at Brentwood Academy.
  • Elaine is a Nephil, but she is also considered an archangel due to her combined soul and especially potent grace giving her power equal to an archangel. She is both: a Nephil and an Archangel.[2]
    • She's a nephilic vessel created from excess worship. These nephilic vessels are usually created with a purpose. Elaine doesn't know it, and if someone told her, she would blank out. This purpose is usually known only to the parent angel, if at all.[3]
    • Her purpose is to replace Raguel Demiurgos.[4]
    • The reason God forbade Michael and the other archangels in Heaven from seeing her so that she'd have to turn to Lucifer, and she would thus learn to lead from watching him in action all the while she'd have Michael's support despite Lucifer's influence on her because she's his daughter.[5]
  • Her father, Michael Demiurgos, was forbidden from interfering with Elaine's upbringing by the Presence. That's why he couldn't come when Elaine evoked his name. According to a divine informant who claims to have witnessed it, Michael became incredibly irate following Lucifer taking Elaine under his figurative wing.[6]
    • Despite this Michael left Elaine a jacket as a Christmas present.
  • When she was growing up she was an atheist, which caused frictions with her mother.
  • She finally met her father on November 19th 2016.[7]
  • She doesn't believe in Santa Claus, despite him giving her a present one time. Lucifer plans to bring her to the North Pole to prove he's real.[8]

Notes[]

  • Elaine's birth date is a nod to her first comic book appearance: Lucifer #4, in September 2000.
