Tora Olafsdotter: 1988 - 2006 Edit

Tora is from an isolated community that lives in a valley in the northern European country of Bjorland. From a very young age, it was made clear that Tora was a strange child, always so friendly. This personality was very much at odds with the rest of the village, whoe were as harsh as the environment. The vaillage elders told Tora that such behavior meant weakness.

As time went on, Tora sought to prove her strength by venturing out into the forests. There she met an old hermit who lived in the middle of the forest. Tora knew the rumors about him, she could sense he needed a friend. It took years for Tora's visits to win him over, but the two become friends and when he heard of her plight, he decided to train her in the old, lost ways. Eventually, Tora used these lessons to compete in the winter festival games and bested all. But even this impressive feat did little to warm the hearts of the elders.

So this village had a big, dark secret. The elders practiced magic of a foul sort, having made a pact with a being many generations ago. The deal was the village sacrifices a troublesome child of seventeen years of age every winter and in turn, the spirit would grant a mild winter and good weather the rest of the year. During Tora's seventeenth winter, the elders decided that she would make the most suitable offering so Tora's own family ambushed her and chained her on the elders' command and dragged her out to where the sacrificial altair had been prepared. As Tora cried out in protest, the chains that bound her turned cold and brittle and snapped off her as if they were kindle. As the baffled elders gazed upon Tora, the old hermit showed up and revealed himself to be the Ice King, Olaf, the very winter spirit. He refused the elders' offering on the grounds that Tora was too pure of heart to be "troublesome", Olaf then whisked Tora away. Once she was safe, Olaf revealed that his lessons with her had given her a portion of his power. He asked her to never return. After she promised she never would, Olaf conjured up all she would need to start a new life, including giving her a new surname of her choosing. The name she chose melted the Ice King's heart as they said their farewells.[1]
